The Hebrew University of Jerusalem has signed an agreement to sell its Stern dormitory compound in Kiryat HaYovel. Kol Ha’ir reported the agreement on September 27, 2026. Ilan Gordo confirmed it. He is an owner of Yakir Bniya and chair of the Jerusalem builders’ association.
About 200 homes is the buyer’s number
Gordo says Yakir Bniya bought the plot together with DC Shikun. The two firms set up a joint company, Migdalei Gia, to build it. He says an approved zoning plan already allows about 200 homes, and that building can start right away. That figure of about 200 homes is his. We have not matched it to a plan number. Kol Ha’ir does not report a price.
Naama Kaufman-Pas, the university’s director general, said the sale fits the Kiryat HaYovel urban renewal plan. She said it lets the university keep focusing on adding dorms and upgrading them. Kol Ha’ir reports that students are now moving into a new dorm at the Safra campus in Givat Ram, with about 700 rooms, designed by architect Gabi Schwartz. A separate Ein Kerem dorm, designed by Daniela Plessner, started about a year ago. It has 417 rooms for medicine and health students and is due in about two years, near Hadassah hospital.
About 1,117 campus rooms, added up by us
Add the about 700 Safra rooms to the 417 Ein Kerem rooms and you get about 1,117 rooms. That total is our addition of the two campus projects Kol Ha’ir describes. It is not an official university figure, and it is not a count of homes on the Stern site. The only outlet we found on this sale is Kol Ha’ir, and the 200-home claim rests on the buyer.
