Living in Kiryon
Kiryon (קיראון) is one of the oldest and largest neighbourhoods in Kiryat Ono. A Madlan neighbourhood profile from about 2023 says it was built from the early 1960s by the Kiryon company, set up by investors from South America and Switzerland, and was first planned with buildings of only four or five floors. Today it mixes ground-level houses, buildings of about 4 to 9 floors and towers of 13 to 14 floors. Most of its open space and parks lie south of Shlomo HaMelech Street, and the neighbourhood has its own schools, banks and synagogues as well as the city mall, Kiryat Ono Mall. Those are one property portal's observations, not an official survey, so walk the streets around any flat you are considering. For the city as a whole, see our Kiryat Ono page.
Getting around Kiryon
Levi Eshkol Road, Kiryat Ono's main street, runs the length of Kiryon and carries most of its traffic. The Madlan profile describes good access north and south to Routes 471 and 461 but frequent congestion, many bus lines through the neighbourhood and a bike path along most of the road.
The metro is planned for these same streets. NTA (נת"ע), the government company building the Tel Aviv light rail and metro, plans two M3 metro stations in Kiryat Ono, Shlomo HaMelech and Levi Eshkol, according to its Kiryat Ono page. Preparatory works are due to start in 2026 around the Shlomo HaMelech station, along Shlomo HaMelech, Yehoshua Baum, Ben Gamla and Uri Dori streets, and later around the Levi Eshkol station, along Levi Eshkol, Wallach, Yerushalayim and Yehuda HaLevi streets, with temporary changes to traffic, access and parking nearby. NTA plans to open the line to passengers in 2037 and says its dates can change as the project advances. The same page lists one Purple Line light rail station in Kiryat Ono, Ganei Ilan, on a line NTA aims to open in 2028. Our article on how the Tel Aviv metro could reshape real estate looks at what a station nearby can mean for prices.
Urban renewal in Kiryon
Much of Kiryon's older housing is being renewed, through pinui-binui (פינוי בינוי, evacuate and rebuild) and TAMA 38 (תמ"א 38) projects, the Madlan profile says. Madlan also lists several large new projects in the neighbourhood, but their sizes come from developers and we have not confirmed them against planning records. Before you rely on any number of homes or completion date, check the plan on the Planning Administration's XPLAN map or ask Kiryat Ono's planning department. Our guide to urban renewal in Israel explains how both routes work for owners and buyers.
