Compare Tiberias with the distinct communities around the Kinneret. Lower Galilee Regional Council places Giv’at Avni about 10 kilometres west of Tiberias; journey time depends on the destination and traffic. Check each property’s view and legal route to the shore rather than assuming a whole-lake panorama or direct access.

Living around the Kinneret means comparing Tiberias with surrounding communities. Lower Galilee Regional Council places Giv’at Avni about 10 kilometres west of Tiberias; travel time depends on the destination and traffic. Compare each property’s services, access and actual view.

If you enjoy lake scenery and outdoor space, visit the area at different times and seasons to see how traffic, weather and everyday services suit you. This guide introduces selected communities and the checks to make before choosing a property; it is not a complete demographic or housing inventory.

1. Places Right on the Water

Moshavat Kinneret

Moshavat Kinneret is a historic community in the southern Kinneret area. Check the exact house type, land rights and route to the shore; a backyard does not automatically provide direct water access.

Kvutzat Kinneret

Kvutzat Kinneret is a separate kibbutz near Moshavat Kinneret. Check the actual property and viewing angle; a lake view is not established for almost every street.

Degania Alef and Degania Bet

Degania Alef and Degania Bet are kibbutzim in the southern Kinneret area. The Jordan continues south from the lake here; its upstream river already exists north of the Kinneret. Check individual homes for views and access.

Ma’agan

Ma’agan is a kibbutz in the southern Kinneret area with tourism facilities. Check the current operator’s beach access, accommodation and activity terms before planning a visit.

Ein Gev

Ein Gev is a kibbutz on the eastern shore. Check current operator information for the harbor, beach and restaurants; these visitor amenities do not establish the outlook or rights of a residential property.

Ginosar

Ginosar is on the northwestern side of the lake and is home to the Yigal Allon Center’s Ancient Boat exhibit. The boat dates from the period associated with Jesus, but the nickname “Jesus Boat” does not establish that he used it. Housing age and lake outlook must be checked property by property.

Migdal

Migdal lies north of Tiberias. Compare the actual house, outlook and routes to the city and shore; the claim that most homes have full lake views is not supported by an inventory.

2. Places on the Hills (With Big Views)

Nof Kinneret – Tiberias

Tiberias municipal documents use the name Nof Kinneret. Identify the exact street and inspect the view; do not assume that the name promises a whole-lake panorama or a balcony facing sunset over the water.

Ramat Kinneret – Tiberias

Ramat Kinneret is listed by Tiberias Municipality among the city’s middle-level neighborhoods. Check the street, current services and actual outlook rather than assuming every home is new or panoramic.

Poria Illit, Poria Neve Oved, and Poria Kfar Avoda

Poriya Illit, Poriya Neve Oved and Poriya Kfar Avoda are distinct community settlements. Their topography, road access and views differ; inspect the specific property rather than assuming all three have a full lake panorama or the same drive time.

Arbel

Arbel is a moshav in the Arbel Valley northwest of Tiberias. The view from Mount Arbel is not a promise about the view from a home in the moshav. Ask the community directly about the social and religious fit rather than relying on an unverified majority label.

Giv’at Avni

Lower Galilee Regional Council places Giv’at Avni about 10 kilometres west of Tiberias and describes a diverse community. Check each home’s size, terrace and view; the claim that most terraces face the Kinneret is not established.

Alumot

Alumot is a kibbutz in the southern Kinneret area. Check the outlook from the specific property; nearby scenic viewpoints do not establish a panorama from almost every point.

Livnim

Marom HaGalil Regional Council describes Livnim as a community settlement west of the Kinneret. Ask about community fit and inspect the property’s view; neither a religious majority nor lake views from many homes is verified here.

Community fit

Ask the community administration and prospective neighbors about schools, religious services, language, communal obligations and daily routines. This guide does not provide a sourced religious/secular population breakdown for each locality.

4. What Makes the Kinneret Area Special

  • The water: The Kinneret is a freshwater lake. It is not Israel’s only lake of fresh water; the restored lake in Hula Nature Reserve is another example.
  • The climate: Visit in different seasons and consider heat, shade and ventilation when assessing a home.
  • The Views: Whether you’re right on the beach or up in the hills, the scenery is stunning.
  • The Feeling: It’s slower, calmer, and more connected to nature. Even short visits feel like rest for the soul.

5. Walk to the Water or Live Above It

For access to the shore, investigate the following communities and check the actual permitted walking route from the property:

  • Moshavat Kinneret
  • Degania Alef / Bet
  • Ma’agan
  • Ein Gev
  • Ginosar

For a possible elevated view, investigate the following areas, then verify the exact property’s elevation, view and planning context:

  • Nof Kinneret
  • Poria
  • Arbel
  • Giv’at Avni
  • Livnim

What Life Around the Kinneret Really Feels Like

The Kinneret is more than just a lake — it’s a way of life. Each community has its own personality: some are modern and family-focused, others feel like old villages from a storybook. Each place offers a different setting; visit the actual home and nearby public spaces to see whether the outlook meets your expectations.

Living here isn’t only about location. It’s about waking up every day in one of the most peaceful, beautiful corners of Israel.
